Not everyone has two or three weeks to explore Namibia. If you have seven days and want to experience some of the country's most memorable landscapes and wildlife, this safari is a great place to start.
Our 7-Day Namibia Safari takes you from Windhoek into the spectacular red dunes of Sossusvlei, across the Namib Desert to the Atlantic coast at Swakopmund, and north to Etosha National Park for wildlife viewing.
Along the way, you'll experience a remarkable variety of scenery, from open desert landscapes and towering sand dunes to coastal towns and wildlife-rich savannah.
At Unseen Namibia Safaris, we arrange private guided and self-drive journeys designed around your travel dates, interests and preferred accommodation.
This seven-day route covers considerable ground, so it is best suited to travellers who are comfortable with a few longer driving days. If you have more time available, we can also recommend a slower itinerary.

The route shown is indicative. Actual roads, travel times and overnight locations may vary according to your accommodation and travel arrangements.
Total: 6 nights
Welcome to Namibia!
On arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, you'll be met and transferred to your accommodation in Windhoek.
Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore parts of the city, enjoy a relaxed meal or simply recover from your journey.
For self-drive guests, this is also a convenient day to collect your rental vehicle, go through the travel arrangements and prepare for the journey ahead.
We generally recommend spending your first night in Windhoek rather than starting a long drive immediately after an international flight.
Overnight: Windhoek
Accommodation: Comfortable city guesthouse, boutique hotel or luxury property.
After breakfast, your safari begins with a scenic drive southwest towards the Namib Desert.
Leaving Windhoek behind, the landscape gradually changes as you travel through mountain passes, open plains and increasingly arid countryside.
Depending on your route, you may pass through the Spreetshoogte or Remhoogte area and stop near Solitaire.
The journey itself is part of the experience, with wide-open scenery and opportunities to stop for photographs along the way.
Arrive at your accommodation in the Sesriem or Sossusvlei area during the afternoon.
If time allows, enjoy the surroundings or visit Sesriem Canyon before settling in for the evening.
Approximate driving time: 5–6 hours, excluding longer stops.
Overnight: Sossusvlei / Sesriem area
Today is dedicated to one of Namibia's most extraordinary landscapes.
An early start gives you the opportunity to experience the dunes in the beautiful morning light, when the low sun creates dramatic shadows across the sand.
Travel into the Namib-Naukluft National Park and explore the famous Sossusvlei area.
One of the highlights is Deadvlei, a striking white clay pan surrounded by enormous red dunes and dotted with the remains of ancient camelthorn trees.
You may also choose to climb Dune 45 or, if you're feeling energetic, tackle the more demanding climb up Big Daddy.
There is no need to climb the highest dunes to enjoy the experience. The scenery is spectacular from many viewpoints.
Depending on the weather and your interests, you can also explore Sesriem Canyon.
Return to your accommodation during the afternoon and enjoy another night in the desert.
Overnight: Sossusvlei / Sesriem area
After breakfast, travel northwest through the Namib Desert towards the Atlantic coast.
The scenery changes considerably along the way, from rugged desert mountains and gravel plains to the cooler coastal environment around Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.
Depending on your chosen route, there may be opportunities to stop for photographs at scenic viewpoints or interesting geological formations.
Arrive in Swakopmund during the afternoon.
This coastal town offers a very different atmosphere from the desert, with its historic architecture, restaurants and oceanfront setting.
Spend the remainder of the day exploring the town, walking along the beachfront or enjoying dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Because this itinerary includes only one night in Swakopmund, longer excursions such as Sandwich Harbour are not normally included. We can adjust the itinerary if this is one of your priorities.
Approximate driving time: 5–6 hours or longer with stops.
Overnight: Swakopmund
Today you travel north and inland towards Etosha National Park.
This is one of the longer driving days of the safari, so an early departure is recommended.
As you leave the coast, you'll pass through changing landscapes and small towns on the way towards northern Namibia.
Depending on the route and your accommodation location, you may travel via Usakos, Omaruru, Otjiwarongo and Outjo.
Arrive in the Etosha area later in the afternoon.
If time and park gate arrangements allow, you may be able to enjoy some initial wildlife viewing. Otherwise, settle into your accommodation and prepare for the following day's safari.
Approximate driving time: 6–8 hours or longer, depending on the route, road conditions and stops.
Overnight: Etosha National Park or nearby lodge
Today is all about wildlife.
Etosha National Park is one of Namibia's best-known safari destinations, famous for its vast salt pan, open landscapes and waterholes.
Spend the day exploring different areas of the park, stopping at waterholes and looking for wildlife along the way.
Animals you may encounter include elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, springbok, oryx, wildebeest, rhinos and many other species.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and every game drive is different.
One of the most rewarding experiences in Etosha is simply waiting at a waterhole and watching what happens.
Your day can be adapted to your interests, with time for photography, breaks and wildlife observation.
If you are staying at Okaukuejo Rest Camp, you may also have the opportunity to visit its well-known floodlit waterhole in the evening.
Overnight: Etosha National Park or nearby lodge
After breakfast, begin your return journey south towards Windhoek.
Depending on your accommodation location and departure arrangements, the journey generally takes around five to six hours or longer.
If time permits, you can stop along the way for refreshments or a relaxed lunch.
Your safari ends in Windhoek, with a transfer to the airport or another agreed drop-off point.
Because of the distance from Etosha, we recommend booking a late-afternoon or evening international flight. An additional night in Windhoek is the safer option for early departures.
Approximate driving time: 5–6+ hours.
End of safari
A private guided safari is an excellent way to explore Namibia when you have limited time.
Instead of concentrating on driving, navigation and road conditions, you can enjoy the scenery and experiences along the way.
With Unseen Namibia Safaris, your journey can be arranged with an experienced local driver-guide and a private safari vehicle.
Your guide takes care of the route, practical arrangements and daily travel while you enjoy Namibia at your own pace.
A private guided safari is particularly suitable for first-time visitors, couples, families and travellers who prefer a more comfortable and personal experience.

Prefer to explore independently?
We can also arrange this itinerary as a self-drive safari.
Namibia is a rewarding destination for independent travellers, but careful route planning is important, particularly when you have only seven days.
At Unseen Namibia Safaris, we can help with a suitable rental vehicle, accommodation reservations, route planning and practical travel advice.
We'll explain the driving distances, road conditions and what to expect along the way.
A self-drive safari gives you freedom and flexibility, while still benefiting from local planning and support.
EXPLORE OUR SELF-DRIVE SAFARIS
Accommodation is selected according to your travel style, preferred comfort level and budget.
We can arrange comfortable mid-range accommodation, boutique lodges or more exclusive properties.
A comfortable guesthouse or hotel is ideal for your arrival night, with convenient access to the city and airport transfer arrangements.
We generally recommend staying in the Sesriem area to make the most of your early-morning visit to the dunes.
Accommodation ranges from desert camps and comfortable lodges to luxury desert retreats.
Choose from guesthouses, boutique hotels and comfortable properties near the town centre or beachfront.
Accommodation may be arranged inside the park or at a private lodge near one of the entrance gates.
Staying inside the park can offer convenient access to game-viewing routes and, at selected rest camps, floodlit waterholes.
All accommodation is subject to availability at the time of booking.
Your exact inclusions depend on whether you choose a private guided or self-drive package and the accommodation selected.
We provide a clear, detailed quotation so you know exactly what is included before confirming your safari.
The cost of a seven-day safari depends on several factors, including your travel dates, number of guests, accommodation standard and whether you choose a private guided or self-drive journey.
For private guided safaris, the number of people sharing the vehicle can also affect the price per person.
We prefer to provide an individual quotation rather than advertise a fixed price that may not reflect your actual travel arrangements.
Tell us when you'd like to travel, how many people are travelling and what type of accommodation you prefer.
We'll prepare a safari proposal that suits your requirements.
REQUEST A PERSONALISED QUOTATION
Namibia can be visited throughout the year, but the seasons offer different experiences.
The cooler, drier months are particularly popular for wildlife viewing in Etosha.
Animals often gather around permanent waterholes, and the thinner vegetation can make sightings easier.
Winter mornings in the desert can be cold, so warm clothing is recommended.
The warmer months bring seasonal rainfall to parts of Namibia, changing the landscape and creating interesting photography opportunities.
Etosha becomes greener, birdlife can be excellent and wildlife may be more dispersed.
Sossusvlei can become extremely hot during summer, making early-morning visits especially important.
The best time to travel depends on your interests, preferred temperatures and availability.
We believe a good Namibia safari is about more than visiting famous destinations.
It is about planning the route properly, choosing accommodation that makes sense and giving travellers the confidence to enjoy their journey.
As a locally operated safari company based in Namibia, we understand the distances, road conditions and practical details involved in travelling through the country.
We arrange private guided safaris, self-drive holidays, 4x4 vehicle rentals and tailor-made journeys.
When you book with us, you deal with a local team that takes a personal interest in your safari.
We don't believe every traveller needs the same itinerary.
If you'd prefer more time in Etosha, an extra night in Swakopmund or a more relaxed journey, we'll help you adjust the route.
Seven days is enough to experience several of Namibia's major highlights, but it requires careful planning and some longer driving days. For a more relaxed journey, we generally recommend ten to fourteen days.
This itinerary includes Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Swakopmund and Etosha National Park, combining desert scenery, the Atlantic coast and wildlife viewing.
Yes. This route can be arranged as a self-drive safari, although you should be comfortable with long distances and gravel-road driving. We can help with vehicle selection, accommodation and route planning.
A 4x4 is not essential for every section of the route under normal conditions, but a suitable vehicle with good ground clearance is often preferable for Namibia's gravel roads. The final deep-sand section near Sossusvlei requires special consideration, and a shuttle may be the better option.
Yes, although the longer driving days may be tiring for younger children. We can adapt the itinerary to include shorter drives and a more relaxed schedule.
Yes, but a full Sandwich Harbour excursion generally requires more time in the Swakopmund area. We recommend extending the safari or adjusting another part of the itinerary to include it comfortably.
Absolutely. We can adjust the route, accommodation, activities and travel style according to your interests, available time and budget.
The standard itinerary starts and ends in Windhoek. Other arrangements may be possible depending on your travel plans.
Whether you're planning your first Namibia safari, a private guided holiday or a self-drive adventure, we'd be happy to help.
Tell us your preferred travel dates, number of travellers and the type of experience you're looking for.
We'll put together a practical, personalised safari itinerary and quotation.
